Guys, here is a subject that I do know a lot about � Oil filtration. When you go out and purchase a filter, you must realize it�s the one item on your unit that can remove dangerous contamination from your hydraulic system. Most filters will tell you their micron rating (particle size) that they claim to remove. But an equally important rating is the Bata (Bn) rating. Bata ratio is the number of particles of the specified micron size to make it through the element and not be trapped. Example Bata 12 =50 (that means 10,000 pieces of dirt size 12 micron or greater travel in but 200 are not caught) Beta 12=400 (10,000in / only 25out) = a much better filter. Also check if the filter is rated nominal or absolute (absolute is a much rated filter - it means that it will trap dirt great than the specified micron size and not just the rated size). Glue / element media / Delta P drops and other items need to be considered when purchasing filters. Your local car guy with the 16-year-old �expert� is just a salesman and only wants to sell something. JD, Kubota, NH, or any other manufacturer wants you to use a quality product to protect your machine so that they don�t have any warranty or reliability problems so they are going to make sure that OEM replace parts are the best possible � thus they are a little more expensive.

A few postings back I mentioned the steiner LS340 sweeper. I don't know if you had time to look at it but you can off set it to the left, right or set it to follow the tractor. If you off set it you wouldn't have to drive over the walnuts to pick them up. I think they will come out to demo it at you loacation. Steinerturf.com"

It is true that gasoline horsepower and diesel horsepower are the same BUT you have to consider torque at the said horsepower. HP = Torque * RPM and diesels are operation at a much lower RPM to get the equivalent HP of a gas engine. If you look at the output curves of comparable HP gas and diesel units you will see that the gas units have a smaller power band then the diesel. SO WHAT DOES IT MEAN - It means that a diesel with lower RPMs and a broader power band will tug along and not bog down like a gas unit and thus get you through a lot more.

Peter, I have a 3410HST and mow 7.5 acres with a 90inch rear mower. I LOVE IT! I use to do the same area with a diesel 72inch Toro groudsmater (which I now use for trimming) but at only half the speed and half the comfort. I have hilly land and do a lot of FWD to REV moving so the HST is perfect - on a steep hill just ease up on the pedal to slow down and maintain power - in direction changing the PTO is constant. I have a Kubota 3410HST and I love it. It works great around trees and has more then enough power. I mow with a 90inch three point rear discharge and the only problem I have is scuffing the lawn in bumpy areas. The tractor is perfect for my 7.5 acre lawn and has never given me any problems at all.
